Honouring Peranakan Heritage Through Wedding Traditions

At Asian Artistry Fine Jewellery, we believe jewellery is more than adornment. It carries heritage, memory, and the stories that connect one generation to the next.

That is why the celebration featured in The Straits Times resonated so deeply with us. We were deeply inspired to see Peranakan culture celebrated in such a meaningful way through the wedding of Mr Kean Wee and Ms Penelope Thoo. Held during the 113th anniversary dinner of the Gunong Sayang Association in September 2023, the couple's union became part of a larger cultural celebration witnessed by about 300 guests at the Grand Ballroom of One Farrer Hotel.

Dressed in traditional Peranakan wedding outfits and jewellery, they took part in a wedding procession and tea ceremony that beautifully honoured heritage and community. The collaboration, proposed by Mr Francis Ngau - the 3rd generation owner of Asian Artistry Fine Jewellery and Mr Wee's uncle, was intended to bring greater attention to Peranakan culture. It is a timely and important effort especially as traditional Peranakan weddings have been increasingly rare in Singapore.

Honouring Living Heritage

Peranakan culture is rich in symbolism, beauty, and family tradition. Weddings, in particular, are a meaningful expression of that heritage, bring together ceremony, craftsmanship, and a community in a way that feels both intimate and timeless.

For us, such moments are a reminder that tradition continues to thrive when it is shared and celebrated.

Where Jewellery Meets Tradition

Jewellery has always held a special place in milestone celebrations. In Peranakan culture, it is not only a mark of beauty, but also of identity, legacy, and remembrance.

At Asian Artistry, we are proud to create and present pieces that honour this connection between artistry and heritage.

A Meaningful Reflection of Our Values

The Straits Times article also referenced our family's earlier 2019 traditional Peranakan wedding procession at Jewel Changi Airport, where Asian Artistry was previously located. For us, this reflects a longstanding connection between our brand, family heritage, and the celebration of Peranakan culture.

As we continue building our story, we remain inspired by occasions like these, where culture, craftsmanship, and family come together so beautifully.
